Articles / workshop update 12/10/08

hi ,date 12/10/08 ,busy ,busy at the workshop as usual, today working on 99 mini cooper ,replacing windscreen scuttle and upper dash rail along with rear wing/sill welding and associated paintwork, have not updated the web site for some time but i am vowing to make time and get writing and uploading pictures with regularity , i get a lot of positive feedback from customers who have visited the site and i enjoy writing about restoration experiences and stuff like that.In the workshop at the moment are mk2 jag ,1966 humber super snipe , three capris ,78 merc sl and the long term but progressing nicely rover p4 now in its third year of restoration and soon to be painted ,now running on all cylinders with rebuilt brake system .The mercedes sl is getting some floor work, the mk2 jag is having its engine rebuilt and a getrag 5 speed manual gearbox conversion .The humber i have rescued from a shed after 30 years now mot,d and taxed and may be for sale ,it is superb car with alovely leather and wood interior ,i will try to publish photos of these and many more of the day to dat jobs we have completed recently.

Step: todays jobmini scuttle

Step: humberlovely super snipe

After a thirty year sleep in a mussleburgh lock up it is back on the road. We rebuilt the brakes ,painted the lower half in a cream white ,fitted whitewall tyres from a customers rolls royce (he wanted new tyres fitting before the rolls went to its family home in Austria)they are like new and really set the car off.The humber was blue all over when we collected it sitting on four flat perished crossply tyres .It did look a bit sombre. The surprising thing about the Humber is, its smoother ,quieter ,has a much better interior build quality and i think it is an all together better ca r than the 80s corniche convertable that donated its tyres to the Humber cause. There is something about these super snipes that makes you feel all is well with the world , you can see the thought that has gone into every part ,from the remote brake servo to the to the glove box door supports ,everything speaks of understated quality and design excellence. When you drive this car you can feel all the hours and care put in by cardigan wearing pipe smokers who had experience and patience to do things properly .I love it ,it does not get a lot of use ,it takes up a lot of space , but when she greets me in the morning as i open the workshop it puts a smile on my face, there are some things in the world worth preserving, the humber super snipe is one .

Step: mercedes sl for welding we have several customers with sl mercs

This sl is getting some new metal
