Restorations / VW Westfalia Bay Window Camper 1979
This customer brought in his very well looked after and solid VW Camper, for those of you who like attention to detail, it is a 1979 Westfalia Berlin Conversion 2litre. The owner had had it for about a year and already it had crossed the channel twice and in between it had suffered a tyre blow out on an autoroute suffering damage to the rear kerbside quarter.
For this reason it was brought in, but being a nearly 30 year old bay we had a look at all the usual areas and found some nasties in the front wheel arch, the drivers door and other wee dinks and rust spots. After discussion the customer decided to have a full respray and to respray the poptop and replace the canvas for him too. This is no small amount of work on a vehicle this size but we love veedubs so we couldn;t wait to bring her back to her former glory.
Before we begin
Here is a pic taken before it was brought in camping at the Red Squirrel Glencoe, as you can see she''s not in bad nick, but the poptop canvas is on it's last legs. And a previous restorer has not managed to match the paint too well on the different panels.
